Hi Everyone! My name is Waseem Sohail and I’m currently studying Bachelor of Laws/Commerce at Deakin. My journey to becoming President of DCSS involved working at KPMG, interning overseas, being a CPA Ambassador and being on DCSS for two years I’ve been at Deakin. DCSS has being an integral part of my life, both professional and social where I got to network with a number of employers and made a massive group of friends. My aim is to provide the students of Deakin University Geelong with the opportunities they need to take their professional careers to the top ranks. It is an honour to be the President of DCSS for the year 2018 and I’m looking forward to present everyone with a great year from DCSS with the help of my hardworking team!
I am Brooke! I am currently studying a Bachelor of Laws/Commerce at Deakin, majoring in Accounting. I became part of the DCSS family in 2016 as a first year representative on the committee before being elected Director of Careers and now Executive Treasurer. Being part of the society opened up many doors for me. I am a student ambassador for Deakin University and am also involved in the Business and Law Mentor Program at Deakin. I can proudly say that I am honoured be working with an incredible team of hard working and dedicated people.
Hi! My name is Xianelle Antonio and I am the DCSS Executive Treasurer for 2018! I am currently in my third year studying Law and Commerce at Deakin in Geelong, and I am majoring in Accounting with an ambition to become a CA. It has been a fun and rewarding journey since I started as a First Year Representative in 2016 and became Director of Marketing in 2017. As an Executive this year, I hope I can do nothing but the best for Commerce students, and assisting them with university life. I enjoy traveling and taking up new opportunities; having completed a WIL unit in Japan with Deakin Abroad, being a Student Mentor in 2017, as well as a Student Ambassador for the Faculty of Business and Law. We have an amazingly talented committee this year, and I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings!
Vice President of Careers
Hi, my name is Marija Venables, Vice President of Careers. A mature aged student, I’m married to a chef that teaches at the Gordon TAFE and we have an amazing 11-year-old son Reuben. After a billion years in the hospitality industry, I began my career change several years ago studying on-line, progressing through a Certificate IIII in Accounting, a Diploma and Advanced Diploma before eventually deciding to go to university and complete a commerce degree, majoring in Financial Planning. I found the pathways experience extremely helpful in finally narrowing down what it was I’d like to do when I grow up. I joined the DCSS committee, and in particular the Careers portfolio, to give a little back to Deakin and share my experiences, insight and provide options and guidance to other students in order for them to make informed choices about their future careers. I have a wonderful team (Josh and Kyle) and together we will be arranging an array of events to help students make informed career decisions.
