Annual Career Events
Every year the DCSS runs three main career events. These include our Graduates Fair, the Internships & Opportunities Fair and Corporate Cocktails. We also run various skill and information sessions as well as competitions aimed at improving students' overall employability and confidence to succeed in their chosen career paths. To find out more please read about our Career events below and keep an eye out on our Facebook page for when we are holding our next event.
Held annually in March, our Graduate Fair brings together a huge number of industries and employers that are looking for students from completing various majors and allows these employers to showcase employment in Commerce and Business. This event is growing in size every year and is a must go to event for penultimate year students all the way down to first years who are looking to get the full experience and experience they can out of their degrees. The Graduate Fair boasts a panel of recent graudates whom many attended the DCSS career events and made invaluable connections. Students are given the opportunity to ask the panel questions on how they found employment, what they did during their degree to help find work, and how to stand out when applying for positions. Students are then given the opportunity to network one-on-one with employers with any other questions or find more information they may have.
Internship & Opportunities Fair
In the second half of the year, the DCSS holds its Internship & Opportunities Fair. This event invites business seeking motivated studentents for Internship and Work Placement opportunities. With a large Panel of charismatic guests, students are able to ask the questions they want to know as well as network one-on-one with the employers they want to.
Corporate Cocktails is our annual informal networking evening event. In both 2016 and 2017, it saw the DCSS move it down to the Pier on the beautiful Geelong waterfront. The event allows students and employers to network on a more relaxed setting, it gives students the opportunity to talk to employers about their firm, workplace culture, how they balance a work/life balance, and all this while enjoying a casual drink overlooking the spectacular waterfront view. This event also attracts large numbers of faculty members and lecturers which goes to show how popular this event is every year.
DCSS Skills Competition
Supported by the Business & Law Faculty and our Corporate Sponsors, the inaugrual event always draws overwhelming numbers of entrants. While the competition changes year to year, whether it is accounting based, finance based, marketing based or based on one of the many majors provided by Deakin it is always a highly compeititve competition and brings out the best of the best. Keep an eye out on our Facebook Page to see when the next competition is running.
Throughout the year, the DCSS also run information sessions. In both 2016 and 2017, the DCSS ran a 'Resume and Interview skills session' in partnership with one of our Gold Sponsors. This gave students the opportunity to improve their CV & Cover letters as well as get tips on how to handle interviews and give students the confidence they need to nail that next interview for their dream job.
