About Us
What is the DCSS?
The Deakin Commerce Students’ Society (DCSS) is the largest academic student society at Deakin University, with a membership base of in excess of 550 students at the Geelong campus. The DCSS operates as a student run and elected body through the faculty of Business and Law and provides a valuable link between faculty staff and students. The society aims to enhance not only the academic quality of life for all commerce students, but also social life of those on campus through social activities and career fair events.
The goal of the DCSS is to close the gap between what is an ordinary Commerce Degree and forging a successful career. By affording the opportunity for students to network with like-minded students and interact with prospective employers at our careers fairs, the DCSS is consistently approaching this goal. Not to be outdone by other societies however; the DCSS still offers a full calendar of social events throughout the year in order to make every single Commerce degree at Deakin University just that much more memorable for the society’s members.

Academic Events:
As the life a of university student is short and will ultimately culminate in needing to apply for jobs, all students enrolled in a 3 year commerce degree should be thinking about prospective employment as early as possible. Likewise, those in a 5 year double degree should also be seriously identifying work experience opportunities. In order to facilitate this, the DCSS has formed a relationship with the faculty which allows young students the opportunity to gain advice from experienced students and members of the teaching staff. Our committee members are more than willing to discuss students decision that are often needed to be made quiet early on in your degree, including course structure, electives and which major to undertake.
As a Commerce student, attendance at Commerce Society run events is essential to help develop and determine your future career objectives. The Graduate and Vacation Careers fair offer priceless information about these processes and gives students valuable exposure to our sponsors and future employers.

The DCSS is not just all business and this is best illustrated by the fact that year in year out the DCSS runs the best social events for on campus students than any other, including first year intro night, 2 pub crawls, trivia night and the marquee event: the annual cocktail ball.
